Lantern on the Hill, Mexico

In 2007, eight people from Zion went to Lantern on the Hill in Mexico for a mission trip. On this trip, we played with children at the Aqua Viva Day Care and prepared a home by cleaning and painting it for the family who runs the day care.

Habitat for Humanity - Global

Zion has participated in local build days in Adamstown and Lancaster as well as Habitat/Thrivent trips to Guatemala. These are opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels to serve the community and beyond. (For more information on Habitat for Humanity, visit www.habitat.org.)

Zion Lutheran Church, Leola, is a partner church to Mpata Lutheran Church which is in Tukuyu, Tanzania, Africa. The members of Mpata come from the surrounding seven villages. Visits to Mpata have helped foster the relationship. There is no electric but there is one solar panel that lights a small light in the parsonage. Water has to be carried from a distance since there are no local pumps or wells. An adjacent dispensary providing health care to the community has recently closed. Even with these hardships the people of Mpata are joyful and show extreme hospitality to their guests. We are both blessed by this partnership and look forward to learning more about one another in the years ahead.
